Expansion

The biggest problem to deal with was the lack of housing space. Bielefelders got homeless during the bombings and many refugees from the eastern parts of Germany aggravated the situation. Reconstructing the old parts of the city couldn’t solve the problem fast enough. In the Senne area, south-east of Brackwede, a new suburb was planned and built in the 1950s for over 20,000 people, the so-called Sennestadt.
