Conkeror is a highly programmable web browser for the Mozilla XULRunner platform. Inspired by Emacs, it has a sophisticated keyboard system for running commands and interacting with webpage DOM. It can interface with external editors and viewers. It is self-documenting and extensible with Javascript.

Danach hab ich schon lange gelüstet. Ein Webbrowser, der mit der Engine von Firefox die seiten rendert und dabei nur mit der Tastatur steuerbar ist.

The mission of the Scientific and Technical Information Exchange (STIX) font creation project is the preparation of a comprehensive set of fonts that serve the scientific and engineering community in the process from manuscript creation through final publication, both in electronic and print formats. Toward this purpose, the STIX fonts will be made available, under royalty-free license, to anyone, including publishers, software developers, scientists, students, and the general public.

Das Projekt läuft schon seit 1996, der Beta Test ist bereits beendet und laut Timeline auf der Website soll diesen Monat Releasetermin sein.

Was ist das besondere an dem STIX Fonts Projekt? Ich zitiere einfach mal aus einer Presseinformation:

There is currently a clear need for a new font set for mathematical and other scientific symbols, especially in the area of on-screen display in electronic publishing. Today, scientists must assemble scientific symbols and special characters from a variety of fonts, many of which may vary in character style, positioning, or size. The resulting documents typically have an unsatisfactory, jumbled appearance. Even more importantly, when posted to a web site, these documents may not be properly rendered unless the viewers of the document have all of the same specialized fonts available on the computer workstations they are using. This new set of fonts, known as the STIX Fonts, will solve both of these problems, serving the scientific and engineering community in the process from manuscript creation all the way through to final publication, both in electronic and print formats. It will unify support for all special symbols and alphabets into a single, comprehensive font set.

Bin ja mal gespannt! Sobald die Fonts draußen sind, werd ich mir einen Eindruck davon verschaffen ob die hochgesteckten Ziele auch erreicht werden können.

Ah, soso.. Warum verklagen Sie nicht gleich das Internet, oder besser noch, die Papierindustrie. Schließlich kann man auf Papier prima rechtsextremistisches Gedankengut verbreiten.

Zumindest nicht das, was einem die Massenmedien weißmachen wollen. Der Dalai Lama ist nämlich nicht der nette Onkel von neben an. Die unkritische Berichterstattung der Massenmedien erwähnt in keinem Ton:

… daß der Dalai Lama persönlich mit der CIA zusammengearbeitet und den Plan für den bewaffneten Aufstand abgesegnet hat. Der aber war blutig fehlgeschlagen, und die Separatisten flüchteten ins Exil. Offensichtlich wird derzeit ein neuer Anlauf genommen. Inzwischen verdichten sich Hinweise, daß vor dem Hintergrund der anstehenden olympischen Spiele nach osteuropäischem Vorbild eine »Farbenrevolution« in Tibet herbeigeführt werden soll.
