Lisa has been travelling around Europe for a while, visiting cities such as Paris
and London and now she's sitting on a train again, on her way to Brussels.
Frankly, she's not very happy about going to Brussels. Her mother ordered her to go
because of all the famous painters such as Jan van Eyck, Pieter Breughel and Rubens.
But Lisa isn't very interested in their wonderful art. In her opinion, all they painted were boring landscapes or fat women who looked as if they ate five double-whoppers
with extra fries every day, which would have been a major achievement, as burgers
didn't even exist at that time! So it must have been the famous Brussels confectionary
that made them so fat, Lisa thinks.
She definitely wouldn't mind eating a few of the famous Brussels chocolates herself!
She decides to go on a shopping spree from one confectionary shop to another after
arriving in Brussels. She also has to buy something for her mother, who is looking
forward to having some Brussels lace in the home.
Lisa wants to spend three days in Brussels. She intends to see the Saint-Michel
cathedral, the town hall, the famous historical marketplace, the Atomium and Mini-Europe,
which is situated in Bruparck near the Atomium. There you can see Europe en miniature! As well as these, there's the world-famous mannekin piss fountain to have a look
at. Lisa thinks the idea is good, it's like something out of a comic, but apart from
that, a bit of shopping and sightseeing aren't the most exciting things in the world
for a young American girl.
Suddenly a young man sitting across the aisle speaks to her.
"Are you going to Brussels too?"
he asks.
"Yes. I'm afraid so"
she replies.
"You don't sound very enthusiastic"
he says in surprise.
"There's nothing much there"
she grumbles.
"Of course there is! Europe's heart beats in Brussels. The stars shine there day and
night!"
he says to the surprised American girl, who immediately wonders what he means. Probably
a vast, endless party in a cool mega-disco with fantastic lights and never-ending
love songs!
Lisa starts to enjoy travelling again and her old curiosity returns. Our intrepid
young American decides to find out exactly where Europe's heart beats - and to what
kind of rhythms! She wants to go straight to the disco, and, after stealing a look
at her young fellow passenger, feels that he would be the best person to do it with!
"
Europe's heart beats in Brussels. The stars shine there day and night!"
What does the boy mean by this?
