I thought the toilet humor was obvious and also not something with which I personally identify - I can usually find a toilet in a private place when I need one. "The current Spontax contest spawns two toilet jokes, a still life that should have been an action shot, and two real contenders. Images de toilette are out out out, and these are not competitive in this field. KM's "NH GK II," a still life of a fractured block of wood, would have been better conceived as an action shot showing the "decisive moment" when the wood splinters under pressure. It also would be better if photographed in focus. MD's original concept was inspired (although staged). The criminal suspect being seized is a particularly appropriate theme for the Chicago locus, and the eyes of the `police' and the looks on their faces are fine for, again, a staged crime shoot (and next time, black-and-white, severely cropped to emphasize grain, to suggest distance, to imitate an actual photojournalist's pic). Forget the X-files thing, though. Trust your first creative thought. The winner is plainly CM's industrial documentary style image of the worker with the wall of bound newspapers, with the blur of some (surely repetitive) motion required by the job. This is plainly the best of show. (The caption is not, if taken seriously. Let's not.) It manages to be true to the `under pressure' theme, incorporates the horizontals of a graphic design, includes an important human element and captures motion all at once. Bravo ! Another succesful Spontax event. What a fine idea - a competition of photos and of comments upon the photos. Congratulations to all."Ron Ginter:
"In spite of the graininess of the girl's cheek, the overall composition was very good. The stacks of file folders make for a very rich texture, and the blurred motion of her hand gives life to the picture. The other pictures are weak in comparison."Len Pearson:

"I had difficulty choosing between Christoph and Sabine. I think both captured the feeling of pressure quite well, but in the end, it was Sabine's photograph that gave me a real sense of immediacy. However, I think it's important to point out that had Matthias used his original photo, I would have chosen that one. Matthias, stick with your first instinct!"Falk Münchbach:
"Schöne Idee, diesen Wettbewerb über Internet auszutragen, ich hatte in den Kieler Nachrichten vom 31.1.98 davon gelesen. Werde ab und zu wieder reinschauen. Die Klo-Thematik hat es ja bei Euch mehreren angetan, wobei ich dazu noch auf die Verlagerung des Entsorgungs-Drucks bei Schwemmtoiletten hinweisen möchte, denn das Ziel einer Schwemmkanalisation ist ja keine Kompostierung, sondern die technische Behandlung, wobei die verbleibenden Stoffe dann doch ins Meer gehen und dort Druck auf das biologische Gleichgewicht erzeugen. "Das Bild entspricht genau meinem derzeitigen Gefuehl 'unter Druck'. So gestaltet sich meine derzeitige Arbeit, aus der ich mit meinem Hobby Fotographie entfliehen moechte. Das Foto ist gut gestaltet. Die Aktenberge erschlagen den Betrachter und die Frau auf dem Foto foermlich. Mensch wirkt dabei so klein. Mit den anderen Umsetzungen des Themas kann ich leider nichts anfangen. Ansonsten ist der Wettbewerb immer wieder sehr interessant. Verfolge alle seit 7/97. Weiter so!"Timothy Marquardt:

"An Christophs Bild finde ich die Idee am besten. Gut getroffen ist auch stressige Bewegung der Beamtin 'unter Druck'. Gleich danach kommt Sabines Bild, dass mir fast genauso gut gefällt. Christophs und Sabines Bilder sind die einzigen, die richtig zum Thema passen. Matthias´ Bild könnte man - mit entsprechendem Text versehen - unter jedem Thema einreichen. Der semi-jokose Text rettet das Foto auch nicht. Das Mädchen auf Ralfs Bild sieht nicht aus, als ob sie "unter Druck" stände, sondern es lacht. Nur durch den Text versteht man, was das Bild eigentlich darstellen sollte. Die Bilder zum Thema "Gefahr" haben mir insgesamt besser gefallen. Hoffentlich werden die Bilder zum nächsten Thema wieder besser. Ich warte mit Interesse darauf!"
