Rubik's Cube and More

Rubik's Type Puzzles

Differen Number of Axes

These puzzles can be turned similar to the Rubik's Cube, but have different number of axes.

Octahedron
Octahedron [flea market, 0,30 €, unfortunately a little battered]
The Octahedron has six axes and on Jaap's Puzzle Page it's in the same category as the Cubes. The solution is partly the same as that of the Pyraminx.

Megaminx
Megaminx, chinese version [birthday present, July 2008]
The Megaminx has 12 axes.

Pyraminx
Pyraminx [flea market, including a book published in GDR]
The Pyraminx has four axes (tetrahedral). The solution is partly the same as that of the Octahedron.

Skewb
Skewb [flea market]
On my Links page I offer a link to a page that has been a great help in solving this.

Playtypus
Jackpot or Playtypus (Meffert's) or Tripod (Rubik's) [toy store, 8,99 €, January 2007]
The aim is to turn all so called toppers in such way that each face has one color. While doing so one has to also align the letters on the toppers so that they correspond with the middle of the toppers. For a higher difficulty there are colored arrows on the sides as well, which have to face those of the same color. This puzzle is not too hard to solve without a solution.

Brain Twist
Brain Twist [present, summer 2007]
Brain Twist seems a little different from the Puzzles in this category, due to its mechanism: It can be folded, one could almost say turned inside out. The solution is the same as the solution for Playtypus though. The corners can be turned similar to Playtypus' toppers.
